From student to staff – Chris's journey back to More House
Wednesday, 17 September 2025

We are delighted to welcome back Chris, one of our alumnus, who has recently joined the More House School team as our new Cover Supervisor. In this role, Chris is supporting lessons across a variety of subjects, including sport and psychology – two areas close to his heart.

Chris knows More House well. He first joined in Year 7 and continued all the way through to Sixth Form, leaving in 2016. During Sixth Form he retook GCSE English in the first year during A-Levels and then he ended up with two A-Levels: 1 in Music Technology and 1 in Technology and good memories of his time here.

After leaving school, Chris took a gap year to focus on his passion for kayaking, a sport in which he has competed at international level. He then studied for a Diploma in Sport at Merrist Wood College before completing a Psychology degree at St Mary's University, followed by a Master's in Social Psychology at the University of Surrey. Alongside his studies, kayaking took him as far as South Africa, where he trained and competed.

Chris's professional journey has been just as varied, with roles in both the NGO sector and the Office for National Statistics. Yet he felt drawn to something more fulfilling – and when the opportunity arose to return to More House, he knew it was the right step. Now, he is enjoying settling back into school life and reconnecting with familiar faces, including many of his former teachers.

Reflecting on his journey so far, Chris offers this advice to current and former pupils: "Take every opportunity that comes your way. You never know where it might lead, and each experience will help you grow in confidence and resilience."

We are thrilled to have Chris back with us – not only as a valued member of staff, but as a role model who embodies the spirit of aspiration, independence, and perseverance that More House seeks to nurture in every pupil.
