We're delighted to share that Vincente, one of our alumni, has recently started a new part-time role at the Royal Geographical Society. He has joined as a Library Assistant: Deaccessions, working two days a week, and is already contributing to the care and management of the Society's incredible collections. Vincente has been volunteering with the Royal Geographical Society Collections for the past two years, working on the special library book collections — unique donations from renowned geographers and expedition leaders. This experience has provided him with valuable insight into collection care and curation. For those less familiar, deaccessioning is the formal process of removing books from the library's catalogue. In his new role, Vincente will be supporting this important work, while also contributing to wider activities such as exhibition curation, retrieving archive material for researchers, supervising volunteers, and collaborating with departments including events, marketing, education, and AV. On talking about his new role, Vincente said: "I am extremely excited. The role involves working on deaccessioning library books but also many more opportunities, such as exhibition curation, retrieving archive material from storerooms for researchers, supervising volunteers, helping other departments such as events, marketing, education, AV and much more. Plus, a wealth of training opportunities." We wish Vincente every success in this exciting new chapter of his career! |
