"I attended More House back in 2016, in Year 7 and was there until 2023, where I completed my education. Even though it took some time to find a rhythm, I found More House to be the place where I discovered many of my talents and current interests, and through the encouragement and support of the teachers and staff, I found myself able to truly pursue my these interests and accomplish so much in those 7 years, one of which was the start of my book and potential series. After More House, I attended Hartpury University for a year, before deciding that it didn't feel like the right fit and decided to take a step back and look to begin building experience and skills in the work industry, looking to pursue some other passions of mine, such as the culinary industry, where I'm currently working as a café cook, which I enjoy whilst being able to continue my writing. My writing journey began at More House, I'd been playing about with writing stories before, but it was during one English lesson where it all kicked off. For our daily five minute writing task, the subject was the sea, and for it, I decided to write a story opening based off this dream I had of me and a friend drifting around the ocean in a wooden boat, giving it the title of Lost at Sea, the start of my first novel was born, I found myself wanting to keep going and outside the lesson, eventually deciding to make a story out of it, before I was suddenly shut down by Covid, the file being on my school account. Rediscovering the file upon my return, I got fully into it, the project going through many changes until I found the story I liked, getting lost in creating my own world and characters, working on Lost at Sea for over three years whilst also planning it's sequel and following series, until finally finishing it during my year at Uni and having it printed. The feeling of completing such a project and being able to share it with my friends and family, is incredible and I dedicate my work to them. My book is currently only for private sale and for close friends, family and inspirations, but the idea of publishing is there, although I decided to take some time before putting something quite personal like this out there for public view. But time will tell. At this time, my future plans are wide open, for now I'm going to continue work and writing before deciding what to do next, maybe reapply for Uni, go Travelling, or go fully into Writing, but at this time, I'm happy with what I'm doing. If I have any advice for current students at More House, I'd say if you work hard and do your best, the sooner you can begin doing the stuff you love, find what you like to do and go for it. Also, give Uni a go, it's not for everyone, it wasn't for me, but I tried it and I still got so much out of it. This is your life and journey, so make it your own and write your own story." |
